Advantage and Drawbacks of PET film transfer ( DTF Printing )

Advantages and Drawbacks of PET Film Transfer Printing (DTF)

Before we begin, go through this video so that you will get a clear idea of what DTF printing exactly is.

Before starting with the advantages and disadvantages of PET film transfer printing, it’s important to understand what Pet film transfer printing is. Pet film transfer printing is a way of printing on fabric in which the printing process is completed in two steps. First, the design is printed on a PET (polyethene terephthalate) / paper, and then the paper is heated up to be stamped on the fabric. You might be curious about the Quality of the print. To your surprise, the Quality of the print is well assured in this printing method. The Quality is 20 times better than DTG.

Now you know what is DTF, you might be wondering why one should use such kind of printing ? Why switch from the current medium to PET film transfer printing. Here are some of the advantages of doing so:-

  1. Good Quality:- The double printing or transfer printing process assures that the Quality of the print is maintained. Moreover, the fastness of the colour is assured.

  1. Reassurance: The design is first printed on paper, and then it’s printed on fabric, making it easy for us to reassure the print. Before printing it on fabric, we can check the print before on paper. This reassurance results in fewer printing defects on fabric.

  1. There is no need to cut: There is no need to cut the paper to stick the design on the fabric.

  1. Easy to operate:- Pet film transfer is not quite a complicated process. Its process is really easy to learn. Moreover, there’s no requirement for high maintenance, which make it more convenient.

  1. Environment-friendly technique:- Many new contributions are made to make it environment friendly. In some cases, the PET used is made in a way that can recycle.
  2. Varied choice:- The most important area of concern while choosing desired printing technique is the colour restriction. In pet film transfer printing, there are no restrictions on the number of colours to be used, making it a better option.

  1. Works on all fabric:- PET printing is suitable for all kind of fabrics, whether it be cotton, silk or any other type of cloth. At the same time, DTG doesn’t work for all kind of fabrics. Generally, PET printing is preferred on water-based ink and oil-based ink printing.

  1. Less use on ink:- The ink used for printing is much less than other methods. There’s less use of both white and coloured ink.
  2. Instant results if you are looking for t shirt printing near you and want to get one for you in short period of time.

Disadvantages of PET film transfer printing

Every coin has two sides. With the advantages come disadvantages too. Now let’s discuss, despite so many advantages, why not everyone uses pet film transfer printing.

  1. High Cost:- Cost has the most important role to play while investing in any equipment/device. PET film transfer is a bit costly compared to direct transfer printers such that the economies of scale can also not help reduce its Cost.

  1. Time-consuming:- Though the transfer process helps in reassurance, it’s still a time-consuming process. It is less effective for businesses with fewer workers but much more demands.

  1. More wastage of resources: The design is first printed on a paper/PET and then transferred to the fabric, resulting in more wastage of paper/ PET. These PET papers are also not reusable, which clearly describes the wastage of resources.

  1. Lack of tenderness:- The prints are not much smooth compared to Although its Quality is much higher than DTG, its tenderness and smoothness are much less in its comparison.
